He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles William Kahl and Ann Hines Caneup; and his stepparents, Doris Kahl and Bill Caneup. He is survived by: his wife Jill Harrell Kahl; his children, Nicholas Kahl (Jessie) of Wilmington, NC, Brian Kahl of Elizabeth City, NC and Nichole K. Billups (Johnny) of Elizabeth City, NC.; his siblings, Jim Kahl (Jean) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Anna Boyce (James) of Hertford, NC and Jill Anderson (Aaron) of New Castle, Pennsylvania; and his grandchildren, Mya Billups, Preston Billups, Kimberly Malone, Emmett Kahl, Elijah Kahl, Violet Kahl, London Andress, Kayla Kahl, Emma Kahl and Brent Kahl. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
