He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Dail and Laura Copeland Dail; the mother of his children Dawn Lupton Dail; his brothers, Hubert Dail and Murray Dail; and his great grandchild Owen Stumpf.
He is survived by: his wife Carrie Chappell Dail; his daughters, Sharon Pendleton (Glenn) of Elizabeth City, Cheryl Meads (Steve) of Elizabeth City, Brenda Stumpf (John) of Molino, FL and Janet Powell (Rick) of Tomball, TX; and his siblings, Ruby Saunders of Hertford, James W. Dail of Hertford and Clarence "Teeny" Dail of Tyner. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, May 4th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home (1125 Harvey Point Rd, Hertford, NC 27944). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 5th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A reception was held on Tuesday, May 5th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Tabernacle's Building Fund, 3818 Virginia Rd, Tyner, NC 27980, or to the Copeland Family Cemetery, c/o Sandra Long, 279 Hunters Fork Road, Tyner, NC 27980.
