With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Atwell Claude Elder of Hickory, North Carolina, who passed away on January 26, 2026 at the age of 83. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Elder and Vela Fincannon Elder; his daughter Amy Elder; and his siblings, Hugh Elder and Elizabeth Bridges.
He is survived by: his daughter Donna McPherson (Hal) of Hickory; his grandchildren, Amanda McPherson of Hickory, Jessica Gordon of Hickory, Zachary McPherson of Catawba, Joshua McPherson (Whittney) of Charlotte, Zane McPherson of Hickory and Justin Gordon (Amber) of Hickory; his great grandchildren, Marlee McPherson, Roman Markham, Campbell McPherson, Rhys Gordon and Oliver Gordon; his sisters, Joann Mashburn, Beach and Geraldine Cansler of Hickory; Joyce Elder of Hickory. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
