He was predeceased by: his parents, William Burder Shuford and Virginia Jones Shuford; his daughter Mary Kathleen; and his brother Frank. He is survived by: his wife Mildred Clemmer (Mickey); his son Charles Hunt, Jr.; his grandchildren, Benjamin Hunt (Katelyn) and Adria Blair (Grace); his great grandchild Jones Barton; his children, Laura Ferguson Shuford and Robert Clemmer Shuford (Marie); his grandsons, William Robert and Jacob Avery of Charlotte; and his siblings, William B. Shuford, Jr. of Gastonia and Virginia Shuford Yates (S. Tucker Yates) of Blowing Rock. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

He served on the Community Foundation Board from 1969, 1996, and as its chair from 1990 until the property was given to the YMCA of Catawba County.
