He was predeceased by: his father Robert B. Sheets, Sr.; his brothers, William T. Sheets and Robert B. Sheets, Jr.; and his brother-in-law Brice Leonard. He is survived by: his wife Louise McCall Sheets; his children, C. Van Sheets (Brenda) of Dallas, Texas, Sharon Scheil (Chuck Scheil) of Hickory and Laura McCall (David Darab) of Asheville; his grandchildren, Dr. Kirsten Scheil Railey (Wyatt) of Atlanta, Georgia, Cara Scheil Crumb (Brendan) of Charlotte, Haley Lambert of New York City, Nathan Lambert of Asheville, Blair Sheets (Ben Cammarata) of Sydney, Australia, Megan Sheets of New York City and Anna Sheets Nicholson (Ian) of Dallas, Texas; his sister Jean Leonard; and his siblings-in-law, Mary Ruth Sheets of Lexington and Dr. Charles McCall (Marcia) of Winston-Salem.
