He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Douglas Bowman and Eula Mae Austin Bowman; his wives, Linda Stafford Bowman, Janice S. Bowman and Carolyn Rash Bowman; and his siblings, Ned Lawson Bowman (Mildred) and Ruth Elizabeth Bolick (Howard "Shorty").
He is survived by: his son Darrell Bowman (Susan) of Hickory; his stepchildren, Tonya D. Calloway of Rural Retreat, VA, Jodi T. Brotherton (Scott) of Rural Retreat, VA, Paula Shull Gates (Glenn) of Lincolnton, NC and Jeff Rash (Beverly) of Lenoir, NC; and his siblings, Barbara Ann Sipe (Wayne) of Hickory, NC, Delma Jean Martin (Terry) of Lenoir, NC, Jerry Wayne Bowman (Sandie) of Taylorsville, NC and Alice Elaine Whisnant (James) of Granite Falls, NC. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
