With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Gene Bumgarner of Hickory, North Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on April 12, 2026 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin E. Bumgarner and Keota Raby Bumgarner; his wife Mary Sue Brown Bumgarner; his son Michael Bumgarner; and his siblings, Ora Lee Milligan, Doris Shull, Betty Asherbranner, Thomas Bumgarner, Carroll Bumgarner, Marvin Bumgarner and Johnny Bumgarner.
He is survived by: his children, Johnny Brown (Judy) of Lenoir, Allen Bumgarner (Michelle) of Hickory and Mary Deal of Hope Mills; his grandchildren, Chad Brown (Angie) of Lenoir, Amy Brown Roop of Lenoir, Laney Bumgarner of Hickory and Audrey Deal of Hope Mills; his great grandchildren, Alston Brown of Lenoir, Mya Roop of Lenoir and Maddax Roop of Lenoir; his godson Danny Rowe of Hickory; and his grandsons, Daniel and Doug Rowe.
