He was predeceased by: his former wife Kay Burns Russ; his parents, Daniel Clarence and Gladys Milligan Russ; and his siblings, Clarence Michael Russ (Mary Ruth) and Gloria Russ Bland (Harold).

He is survived by: his wife JoAnn Wright Russ; and his daughters, Meg Holler (Roy) of Roxboro, NC, Amy Alberts (Matt) of Madison, NC, Heather Joyner (Patrick) of Hickory, NC and Nikki Waring (Josh) of Ocala, FL. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, other loving family members and close friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Madison, NC (110 S Franklin St, Madison, NC 27025). Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31st 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Deep Springs Country Club (160 Country Club Dr, Stoneville, NC 27048).
