It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John Franklinn Tompkins of Hickory, North Carolina, born in Gaston, North Carolina, who passed away on March 22, 2022, at the age of 69, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his father David Tompkins Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Alexander Tompkins; his children, Michael Tompkins (Heather) and Holly Penland (Ross); his grandchildren, Macie Penland, Lyla Penland, Sam Penland and Alex Tompkins; and his siblings, Alicia Luhrs (Bernd) of Spicewood, TX, Sylvia Smith of Cornelius, NC, Cynthia Cloninger (Les) of Lincolnton, NC, Betti Krapfl (Roger) of Greenwood Village, CO and David Tompkins, Jr. (Elaine). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may made to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church at 629 8th Street NE, Hickory, NC 28601 or Fellowship of Christian Athletes at P.O. Box 2802, Hickory, NC 28603.
