He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenn Starnes and Pauline Starnes; and his sister Margaret Keller. He is survived by: his children, Karen Cook, Tammy Gibbs (Floyd) and Johnny Starnes Jr.; and his siblings, Regina Smith, Scottie Starnes (Debra) and Dale Starnes. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
