She was predeceased by: her parents, B. H. Sherrill and Lorene Settlemyre Sherrill; her husband Dr. Stuart Fletcher Clayton; and her brother Max D. Sherrill. She is survived by: her children, Melinda C. Faulk of Newton, Sally C. Hart of Hickory, Eleanor C. Haymond (David) of Cary, NC and Stuart F. Clayton, Jr. (Joe) of Palm Springs; her grandchildren, Stephanie Roberts (Brandon) of Hickory, Melanie Hart of Matthews, NC, Anna Haymond of Greenville, NC, Hailey Haymond of Cary and Ethan Haymond of Cary; and her great grandchild Andi Roberts of Hickory.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Cooperative Christian Ministries or to The Salvation Army.
