He was predeceased by: his parents, Berlie McCoy Echerd and Maxine Rufty Echerd; and his siblings, Polly Echerd Reinhardt, Kathryn Miller and Sam Echerd.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Propst Echerd; his son David Echerd (Betty); his brother Ronald Echerd (Cindy); his grandchildren, Drew Echerd (Leslie), Olivia Taylor (Matt), Ivy Woodruff (Gabe Winfield), Meredith Cook (Chad) and Katie Harter (Cameron); and his sister-in-law Modene Echerd.
