He was predeceased by: his parents, Marion Estes Cooley Sr. and Ruby Duncan Cooley; his wife Betty Ruth Cooley; his stepmother Maggie Inez Cooley; and his brothers, Marion Estes Cooley Jr., David Ellis Cooley, Wiley Preston Cooley and Billy Gene Cooley.
He is survived by: his children, David Wayne Cooley (Michelle) of Taylorsville and Ronda Cooley Goble (William) of Hickory; his siblings, Larry Wrenn Cooley (Brenda) of Sherrills Ford, Becky Correll of Cherryville, Barbara Harris of Newton and Margaret Meredith (Tom) of Lincolnton; his grandchildren, Joshua Rector (Niki), Tayra Cooley, Katie Barnhardt (Jeremy) and Brittney Dennis (Alexx); and his great grandchildren, Kensley Rector, Maggie Rector, Jason Barnhardt, Anna Grace Lail, Kinslee Letterman and Alexis Dennis of Calvary's Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
