He was predeceased by: his parents, Bert Owens and Flora Huffman Owens; his children, Ricky Owens and Lisa Owens; his brother Tony Owens; and his half-siblings, Bobby Owens and Peggy Edwards.

He is survived by: his wife Rosa Lea Hatley Owens; his children, Melissa Starnes (Shannon) of Taylorsville, Monica Helton (Daniel) of Catawba and Ronnie Eric Owens; and his brother Allen Owens of Hickory. He is also survived by four grandchildren; one great grandchild.
