She was predeceased by: her parents, John Kelly and Florence Sidran Coughlan; her brother James Henry Coughlan; and her son Bradley Scott Ellis. She is survived by: her children, Jeffry Brotman (Sherilyn Brinkley), Brandy Ellis (Stephanie Patterson) and Kimberly Ellis (Luis Valladolid). She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, and 1 step-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Catawba County in Sydney's name.
