He was predeceased by: his father Ralph; his wife Quilla Mayo; and his sister Bettie Anne Mayo. He is survived by: his children, John Mayo (Karen) of Winston-Salem and Piper Stephens (Benny); his brother James K Mayo (Pam) of Glen Allen, Virginia; and his close friends, Bill Chambers, Harold Pritchard and Pat Mogon. He is also survived by nine grandchildren five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Hope Hickory Church (130 16th St SE, Hickory, NC 28602).
