He was predeceased by: his father Wesley Addison Sams; and his close friend Robert "Bo" Grayson. He is survived by: his mother Patricia Smith Sams (William) of Lexington; his son Jackson Bentley Sams of Wilmington; his sister Darlene Ellis (Larry) of Kernersville; his niece Courtney Floyd; his nephews, Brent Sams and Jonathan Floyd; and his stepsiblings, Heather Thomas, Angela Pickle and Michael Faggart.
