He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Roby Shives, Sr. and Vialee Whitfield Shives Moore; his wife Patsy Hicks Shives; his siblings, Naomi, Marsh (Shirley Belle Millikan) and Roby Shives; and his grandson Jeremy Scott Shives.
He is survived by: his sons, Darrell Shives, Jr. (Sharon) of Archdale, Danny Shives of Asheboro and Ricky Shives (Beverly) of Hubert; his grandchildren, Bret Austin Shives, Dakota James Shives (Hope), Gavin Bryant Shives and Lynken Brantley Shives; his great grandchildren, Saige Alexandria Shives and Drake James Shives; and his granddaughter-in-law Audra Shives. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
