Gerald Luther Harrington Obituary

Ash, NC- Gerald L. Harrington, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2023, with his daughter by his side.

Jerry was born October 30, 1939, in Sumter, SC and was the son of the late George and Mae Neal Harrington. He is predeceased by his devoted wife of 37 years, Rebecca "Becky" Harrington.

He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1963 and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Jerry served in the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force from August 1967 to August 1968. He was awarded the Silver Star Metal for his outstanding achievements, duty performance and overall contribution to the command mission- an honor he was most proud of during his lifetime. Jerry was a long-time resident of High Point, NC as a successful businessman in the furniture industry. He and his late wife, Becky, later moved and made their home in Oak Island, NC. It was there, Becky lovingly took care of him after he suffered a stroke. They were faithful members of Ocean View Methodist Church on Oak Island.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Stephenson and husband, Philip, of Florence, SC; son, Scott Harrington of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren- Brittney Stephenson Jones and husband, Benjy, of Daniel Island, SC; Austin Stephenson, and Parker Stephenson of Florence, SC; along with sister-in-law, Peggy Shaver and husband, Brent, of Holden Beach, NC as well as six nephews and their family members.

The family would like the thank the staff at Brunswick Health and Rehab along with Amedisy's Hospice for their love and care of Mr. Harrington.

The family will be doing a private placement of his cremated remains at Arlington National Cemetery.
