He was predeceased by: his parents, Melford Carey Seward and Ola Peace Seward; and his siblings, Bill, Minor, Johnny, Paul Seward, Rosemary Armstrong, Thelma Clark and Anne Allen.

He is survived by: his wife Jennie Griffith Seward; his son Russell Seward (Julia) of Mooresville; his grandsons, Matthew Glenn Seward and Brent Russell Seward; and his sister Bonnie Cedolia of Greensboro.
