He was predeceased by: his parents, John Lewis and Mary Jo Messick Whitener; and his brother Dick Whitener. He is survived by: his wife Donna Knollmeyer Whitener; his daughter Angela Whitener Clark (Todd Clark) of Kernersville, NC; his grandchildren, Sarah Clark and Lauren Clark; his son Rick Whitener (Beth Whitener) of Bolivia, NC; his granddaughters, Elisabeth Whitener and Anne Whitener; and his siblings, Libby Whitener Hale (Greg Hale) of Hickory, NC and Chris Whitener. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church in Hickory, NC or Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point, NC.
