He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry Gilliam and Josie Lee Bridges Gilliam; and his sisters, Josie Brower and Dorothy Brower. He is survived by: his wife Barbara "Bobbie" Varner Gilliam; his son John Gilliam, Jr.; his grandson John "Johnny" Gilliam, III; his niece Karen Hardwick; his great-nephew Jonathan; and his siblings-in-law, Brenda Chilton (Dave), Doyle Varner (Kathy) and Linda Varner.
