He was predeceased by: his grandchildren, William Hackaday, Kathie Lee Shelton and Jennifer Smith. He is survived by: his wife Zora Belle "Sue" Mabe; his children, Marlan Mabe (Karen) of High Point, Kathie Smith, Dawn Mabe of High Point and Cynthia Mabe Essalim (El Bachir) of Thomasville; his grandchildren, Jodi Shelton, Heather Hudgins, Stephanie Mabe, Mae Polston, Dannette Beeson and Caleb Mabe; and his close friends, Thomas Reid, Kelly Grooms, Corby Lassiter, Charles Riehs and Daniel Kearns. He is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of the donor's choice, The Alzheimer's Association, or the American Children's Home, Lexington.
