He was predeceased by: his parents, Blaine Monroe and Elizabeth Patterson Pope; his wife Doris Wishon Pope; and his sister Eveline Parson. He is survived by: his children, Elaine Thomas of High Point, Susan Brewer (Craig) of Archdale and Randy Pope of Archdale; his grandchildren, Missy Frazier (Charles), Robbie Thomas and Renee Coleman (Jamie); his great grandchildren, Cassie Thomas, Devon Thomas, Sam Frazier and Kinsey Coleman; and his friends, Craig and Susan Brewer.
