He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Butler and Sarah Butler (Smith); his brother Michael McElroy Butler; his son Charles "Chuck" Grigg; and his granddaughters, Tiffany Jeffares and Courtney Jeffares.
He is survived by: his wife Maxine Starrett Butler; his children, Blake Grigg (Robin) of Denver, NC, Kristy Brown (Chris) of Mocksville, NC, Tom Butler (Jennifer) of Charlotte, NC, Dana Routh (Dave) of Winston-Salem, NC, Robin Holder (Chris) of Walkertown, NC and Dr. Joshua Butler (Dawn) of High Point, NC; his grandchildren, Justin Grigg (Sarah), Ty Gray, Alysa Kwiatkowski (Nick), Kendra Grigg, Jordan Brown (Ashley), Chelsie Lott (James), Brooke Butler, Sherer Williams (Jason), Bradin Routh (Haley), Jess Holder, Jennifer Holder, Katelyn Holder, Whitton Butler and Anniston Butler; his great grandchildren, Caden Fulk, Luke Fulk, Weston Chambers, Brynlee Brown, Nora Grigg, Ryder Anderson and Kyla Kwiatkowski; his brother John Butler (BJ); and his sister-in-law Martha Butler.
