He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Waller Auten and Ruth Glenn Knox Auten; his wife Hazel Honeycutt Auten; and his sister Agnes Auten White. He is survived by: his sons, Mike of Charlotte and Mark (Amy) of Huntersville; his grandchildren, Erin (DJ), John (Courtney), Kevin (Sydney) and Madison (Joe); his great grandchildren, Vivian Burns and Davis Auten; and his friend Dolly Windell.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Williams Memorial Presbyterian Church (4700 Beatties Ford Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216). Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Williams Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery (4700 Beatties Ford Rd, Charlotte NC 28216) or Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care Fund (Donate to NHPMC Foundation Hospice and Palliative Fund).
