He was predeceased by: his father Willie Helms; his wife Linda Williams Helms; his children, Dean "Tree Man" Helms and Lisa Page (David); and his grandson Alan Handy.

He is survived by: his daughter Sue Helms (Ron); and his grandchildren, Crystal Ellis (Jeremy), Brian Helms (Jennifer), Stephanie Almond (Josh) and Kari Brooks. He is also survived by 10 brothers and sisters, 2 great grandsons and 3 great-granddaughters.
