It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Merrill Peterson of Indian Trail, North Carolina, born in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, who passed away on February 22, 2024, at the age of 73, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Peterson and Berniece Peterson (Bozarth); his former wife Carol Kitch; his brother Lynn Peterson; his uncle Everett Peterson; his niece Sharon Smith; his brothers-in-law, Duane Kitch, Bill Tinsman, Reid Brock and Ted Oliver; and his pets, Gibson and Tetley.
He is survived by: his wife Gertraud Krieger of Indian Trail, NC; his children, Megan Peterson of Indian Trail, NC, Erin Peterson of Indianapolis, IN and Aric Peterson (Amanda) of West Melbourne, FL; his granddaughters, Annabelle, Alivia and Abigail of West Melbourne, FL; his siblings, Janis Smith of Encinitas, CA, Carol Ruggles (Randy) of Mount Pleasant, IA and Don Peterson (Karen) of Madison, WI; his siblings-in-law, Mary Zerm (Jerry) of South Lake, TX, Ralph Kitch (Valerie) of Cedar Rapids, IA and Linda Brock of St. Petersburg, FL; and his stepchildren, Shannon Mulrooney of Seattle, WA and Ryan Mulrooney of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Heart Association, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
