He was predeceased by: his parents, Billy H. Merritt and Easter Lily Merritt; and his former wife Janice Wilson Merritt. He is survived by: his daughters, Shea Braswell (Steven) and Devon Price (Jamey); his stepchildren, Timothy Biggers and Karyn McAlpin (Matt); his brother Steve Merritt (Cathy); his grandchildren, Jonathan (Emily), Jackson (Miranda), Savanna, Sarah Jayne, Jase, Allen Biggers (Jessica), Haidyn Ramey and Kaleana Julius-Carroll; his great grandchildren, Claire, Kennedy and Lilith; his sibling's children, Joyce and James; and his wife Ellen B. Merritt.
Visitation was held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the First Baptist Church of Indian Trail (732 Indian Trail Fairview Rd, Indian Trail, NC 28079). A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Forest Lawn East Cemetery (3709 Forest Lawn Dr, Matthews, NC 28104).
In addition to flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Indian Trail VFW, the VA, or Metrolina Christian Academy—organizations that held a special place in Michael's heart.
