He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Maxwell Helms and Cornelia Russell Helms; his wife Mildred Lewis Helms (Mickey); his sons, Jeffrey Thomas Helms and Kelly Wayne Sipes; his siblings, Agnes Griffin, Roxie Thomas, Dorothy Phifer, Gennie Watkins and Craven Helms; and his half-brother Onis Helms.

He is survived by: his sister Juanita Aldridge; and his niece Lillian Traywick (Lynn).

The family requests that memorials be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church Discretionary Fund, 6701 Idlewild Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212.
