He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Gordon and Flossie Lawing Saunders; and his brothers, Thurman (Joyce Saunders), Charlie (Helen Saunders), R. B. (Betty Saunders), Arnold (Lena Saunders), Herschel (Shirley Saunders) and Jerry Saunders.
He is survived by: his wife Betty "Kitty" Smith Saunders; his sons, Heath Saunders (Dawn) of Roanoke, VA and Clay Saunders of Charlotte, NC.; and his siblings-in-law, Barry Smith (Pat) of Cramerton, NC, Gretchen Price (Carl) of Blacksburg, VA and Marjorie Roer (Bob) of Wilmington, NC.. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
