Vernon Ray touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, William Moss Maxwell and Ruth Eleanor Honeycutt Maxwell; his brothers, Bill Maxwell, Larry Maxwell (Joyce) and Bob Maxwell; and his son-in-law Larry Ward.
He is survived by: his wife Myra Heffner Maxwell; his children, Terrye Ward (Mark Johnston) of Lincolnton, Vernon Ray Maxwell, Jr. (Carol) of Shelby and Tiffany Horn (James) of Iron Station; his grandchildren, Rayney Maxwell, Maylan Maxwell, Mitchell Maxwell, Crystal Taylor (Neil), Caleb McMillion and Courtney McMillion; his great grandchild Peyton Taylor; and his sister-in-law Sandra Maxwell.
After retirement, he was a school bus driver at East Lincoln High School until COVID.
