He was predeceased by : his parents, James Linwood and Helen Drake Barnes. He is survived by : his daughter Melissa Barnes Mayo (Greg) of Raleigh; his sisters, Kay Futrell (Bernie) of Rich Square and Gayle Ray of Jackson; and his grandsons, Luke, Lawson and Owen Mayo.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 9th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Askew Funeral and Cremation Services-Jackson Chapel (313 W Jefferson St, Jackson, NC 27845). A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 10th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Jackson Cemetery.
