With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Edna Arlene Hemmingway of Jacksonville, North Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 5, 2026 at the age of 93. She was predeceased by: her parents, James Alex Carter and Pearl Whaley Carter; her husband Conrad "Bill" Hemmingway; her siblings, Dorothy Carter, Mary Carter James, Rannie Carter Whaley, Julia Carter Pickett, Paula Carter Williams, Rhonda Carter Lee, Ralph Bryant Carter, Clyde Carter and Alton Carter; and her stepsons, Mark Hemmingway and Bruce Hemmingway.
She is survived by: her children, Rick Sanderson of Sanford, NC and Donna Sanderson Hay (Michael) of Godwin, NC; her granddaughters, April McElhenny (Brian) and Rachel Nuttle (Robbie); her great grandchildren, Sam Porter V, Jackson Nuttle and Lilisette McElhenny; her daughter-in-law Vicky Sheaves Page; and her pet Goldie. She is also survived by several extended family members and good friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brookwood Baptist Church or Crystal Coast Hospice House.
