The memory of Gladys Edens Wix of Jacksonville, North Carolina, who passed away on October 13, 2025 at the age of 85, will forever remain in the hearts of those touched by this precious presence in their lives. Though Gladys may no longer walk beside us, her memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Gladys touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In her absence, her spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
She was predeceased by: her husband Robert Elmer Wix; her parents, Oscar Solomon and Mamie Elizabeth Bell Edens; her daughter Debra Mearl Merritt; and her brother Oscar Earl Edens.
She is survived by: her children, Donna Morton, Claude Haywood Merritt, Jr. (Teresa) of Jacksonville, James Kenneth Merritt (Jean) of Jacksonville and Tony Howard Merritt of Mt. Airy; and her siblings, George Edens (Sally) of Surf City, Bobby Edens of Hampstead and Lois Dixon (Carl) of Wilmington. She is also survived by Eleven grandchildren, 13 Great grandchildren, 2 Great Great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 16th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Edens Family Cemetery (104 Mill Creek Rd, Hampstead, NC 28443).
