She was predeceased by: her parents, Samuel Peele and Lena Wallace Peele; her husband Elbert "Pete" Morton; her grandson Christopher Ethan Edwards; her son-in-law Doug Edwards; and her siblings, Luther, Hubert, Bobby, Charles, Harold "Sonny" Peele, Mary Katherine Norton, Margaret Lowery and Winnie "Cuter Bill" Gale.
She is survived by: her children, Sharon Sawyer (Jeff) and Duane Morton (Janet) of Jacksonville; her grandsons, Joshua Morton of Jacksonville and Jude Morton of Greenville, Tennessee.; and her caregiver Kalie.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 25th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel (303 Chaney Ave, Jacksonville, NC 28540). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
