He was predeceased by: his siblings, William Hill Powell, Jr., Edward Klingman Powell, Mary Eliza Clark and Katharine Powell Oldham. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Powell; his children, Mary Katharine Powell (Donna Panos), John Michael Powell (Cynthia) and Richard Hughes Powell (Nancy); his grandchildren, Josh Powell (Hannah), Jacob Powell (Nichole), Lauren Powell, Lindsey Powell Cafiero (Joe), Mckenna Panos, Logan Sosa (Jessica) and Tyler Sosa (Kendra); his great grandchildren, Sydney Powell, Bentley Powell and Owen Sosa; and his pet Tucker. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorials be made in his name to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
