He was predeceased by: his parents, John M. Mahlum and Mary T. Mahlum; and his niece Anne-Elizabeth. He is survived by: his siblings, Richard (Hulda), Robert, Mary Mahlum Schmitt (John), Carol, John Jr. (Margie) and William; his wife Joy Sermons Shaw; his children, Daniel (Nina) and Beth (Joe); his stepson John Shaw of Anchorage, AK; his grandchildren, Dylan, Jayden, Reagan, Riley, Lielanie, Mason, Cloey and Phinn; his sisters-in-law, Lynn Healy of Dallas, Shelley Basnight of Greenville, Debra Sermons of Greenville and Pat Zimmerman (Tim) of Raleigh; his uncle Monte Mahlum (Donna) of St. Paul; and his aunt Breta Conlon of Chicago. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
