He was predeceased by: his parents, Reverend Durwood Gurganus and Doris Gurganus; and his brother Troy Gurganus. He is survived by: his wife Jane Gurganus; his children, Kelly Gurganus (Sandy) of Jacksonville, One and Stephanie Niedzwiecki (Steven) of Newport; his grandchildren, Erica Dubois (Craig) of Jacksonville, Taylor VanLew (David) of Clayton and Makenna Niedzwiecki of Swansboro; and his sister Judy Burgess of Jacksonville.
The family request in leu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the food pantry of Trenton Methodist Church.
