He was predeceased by: his parents, John Black, Jr. and Betty Wade Black. He is survived by: his wife Andrea S. Black; his daughters, Anitra Hicks (Mitchell) of Raleigh, NC and Jolyn Black of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Mitchell Hicks, III and Maxine Hicks; his sister Catherine Black Gamble of Charlotte, NC; his aunt Phyllis Ann Melchor; and his sisters-in-law, Sabrena Thomas, Greta Bost (Michael) and Trina Harris (Brian). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
