He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Johnson, Sr. and Bessie Short Johnson; his siblings, Burnice Johnson and Betty Jean Chambers; and his siblings-in-law, Richard Chambers, Johnny Harrington, Keith Allison, Jerry Wayne Lott, Essie Johnson, Doris Wilkes and Wanda Carr.

He is survived by: his wife Imogene Lott Johnson; his siblings, Joseph Johnson, Jr. (Evelyn) of Rockingham, NC, Willie "Shot" Johnson (Debora) of Rockingham, NC, Arthur Lee Johnson of Columbia, SC and Addie Harrington of Rockingham, NC; his siblings-in-law, Katherine Rushmeyer of Concord, NC, Carolyn Walker (Lewis) of Greensboro, NC, Clarance Allison, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Willie Steele of Kannapolis, NC and Troy Steele of Kannapolis, NC; his godchildren, Artessa Pore, Willie, Holly Pore, Jr., Vickie Wiley, Jada Douglas and D. J. Alexander; his grandchildren, Jane'Pore, Jalin Goode, Hannah Foxx, Hayden Pore and Jillian Pore; his great grandchild Nova Goode; his nephew Brandon Wilkes; and his niece Lavonda Robinson (Darrin). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
