He was predeceased by: his wife Jeanette Cockrell; his parents, Lester Cockrell and Pansy Cockrell; his parents-in-law, Sanford Johnson and Bessie Johnson; his brother Eugene Cockrell; and his nephew Rodney Cockrell.
He is survived by: his son Dr. Mark Cockrell (Ronnia); and his grandchildren, Hunter Cockrell (Jackie), Hailee Cockrell, Eli Frazier (Catherine), Eynde Frazier and Barrett Frazier. He is also survived by his son and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church, 9300 Johnson Farm Road, Kenly, NC 27542, in memory of Elton Cockrell.
