He was predeceased by: his father Jim Dowdy; and his brother Donald Wayne Burton. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Williard Dowdy; his daughter Melissa Torres (Edwin); his mother Marian Rehberg Dowdy; and his siblings, Chris Dowdy and Donna Burton Brown.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 6th 2025 from 1:30 PM to 3:45 PM at the Gospel Light Baptist Church (890 Walkertown Guthrie Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 6th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in James's name to the Bus Ministry or Gospel Light Christian School at 890 Walkertown Guthrie Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
