She was predeceased by: her husband Nick Nathan Matthews Jr. of Gillisonville, SC; her parents, Rupert O. McCorkle and Dorothea Lewis McCorkle of Hardeeville; her brother J. Kenneth McCorkle (Gwen) of Montgomery, AL; her son Nick Nathan Matthews III of Kernersville, NC; and her granddaughter Brittany Matthews.
She is survived by: her children, Julie Matthews Barker (Buddy) of Arlington, Virginia, Amelia Matthews of Kernersville and Douglas Guerry Matthews (Jessica); her siblings, Delana McCorkle Tillotson (Beach) of Summerville, Marion McCorkle Finney of Columbia, Chester O.'Chet'McCorkle (El) of Garnett and Chiang-Mai; and her grandchildren, Nick Ashley Barker of Arlington, Virginia, Cassiopeia Barker Dupree (Jemar) of Alexandria, Virginia, Natasha Matthews Middleton (Shaneaka) of High Point, Stephanie Matthews Lawrence (Isaiah) of Bridgeport, Tabbetha Teague Czarnaski (Matt) of Denver, Colorado, Joey Teague (Tina) of High Point, Blake Teague of Greensboro, Benjamin O'Neil Matthews of Franklin Square and Anna Grace Matthews of Blowing Rock. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Gibson House (419 S Main St, Kernersville, NC 27284). A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 23rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Beaver Dam Baptist Church (4611 Beaver Dam Rd, Early Branch, SC 29916).
Donations may be made, in Sandra's Memory, to the Winthrop University College of Arts and Sciences, Department of History, in memory of Elmer Thomas Crowson, to support third- year students pursuing careers in history or government.
