It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Charles Vernon Smitherman of King, North Carolina, who passed away on September 2, 2025, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Guy Vernon Smitherman and Annie Butner Hiatt; and his brothers, Garry and Kimber Grant Smitherman. He is survived by: his wife Sabrina Smitherman; his children, Rod Smitherman, Karen Drane (Andy) and Kevin Barker; his brother Michael Smitherman (Happy); and his grandchildren, Emily Cole (Logan), Derrick Drane (Danielle) and Nathan Barker. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
