He was predeceased by: his parents, Gary Wilbern Heffner, Sr. and Shirley Louise Hardin Heffner; his son Christopher Lee Heffner Sellers; and his brothers, Gary Heffner, Jr. and Mike Heffner.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia Lawson Heffner; his brothers, Dave Heffner (Tammie) of Rutherfordton, Dale Heffner (Beth) of Rutherfordton and Geoff Heffner (Robin) of Shelby; and his stepson Kenneth Wayne (Holly). He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
