She was predeceased by: her parents, Mollie Turnage and Joe Turnage; her former husband Frederick Howard Turnage; her granddaughter Shelley Kay Hill Cates; her husband Albert Smith; and her sisters, Meryl Josephine Harper, Mary Jane Brown and Cora Lee Davidson.
She is survived by: her daughters, Jewel Kay Hill, Connie Marie Barker (Jeff) of Fuquay Varina and Susan Diane Turnage of Kinston; her grandson Clifton Hill (Aaron Lucier) of Winterville; her siblings, Joseph Steven Turnage (Virginia) of Grifton, McLone Turnage of Kinston, James Turnage of Lebanon, Missouri, Ruth Maxine Cox of Winterville, Margaret Rettig of Bremerton and Gloria Blackstock of Fayetteville; and her close friends, Robbie Parrish, Don Williams and Mary Oliver.
