He is survived by: his wife Margaret Byrd Herring of Kinston; his stepchildren, Brenda Thomas (Rick) of Kinston, Ann Hammond of Pink Hill and Robert Cox (Debbie Cox) of Kinston; his grandchildren, Justin Church, Brittany Morgan, Amber Norris (TJ), Travis Cox and Ben Cox (Natalie); his great grandchildren, JJ Boyette, Chancelor Church, Blake Norris, Thomas Norris and Wesley Cox; and his brother Ralph Herring (Janice Herring) of Kinston.
