She was predeceased by: her parents, Harold L. Avery and Hazel L. Avery; her brothers, William T. Avery and Edward C. Avery; her mother-in-law Daisy Webb Owens; and her siblings-in-law, Kay F. Avery, Earlene O. Banks and Owen Etheridge.
She is survived by: her husband Alton Brooks Owens; her children, Sharon Owens Kimrey (Rufus) of Kinston, Carol Owens Larkins of Kinston and Timothy Brooks Owens (Pride) of Columbia; her sister Mavis Avery Taylor of Kinston; her sisters-in-law, Francis Owens Etheridge of Wilson and Mencey Owens Lynn (Norman) of Wilson; and her great grandchild Catherine Hardy Sutton.
