He was predeceased by: his parents, Sarah Hyatt Cato and James Carson Cato; and his brother James "Tommy" Thomas Cato (Uncle Tommy). He is survived by: his wife Margaret Hillen Cato; his sons, Robert Lee Cato Jr. and Michael Conner Cato (Anne); his grandchildren, Parker and Andrew Cato; and his stepgrandchildren, Brennon and Landon Newell.
